Why the name "Escher" for our vacation home?
It's a tribute to the special bond between Fara San Martino and the Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher. During his travels in Abruzzo in the late 1920s, the artist visited Fara San Martino and was fascinated by the village's architecture and the plays of perspective created by the stairways and houses perched on the slopes. This experience led to the famous woodcut dedicated to Fara, created in 1928: an intense and evocative image in which the village seems to merge with the mountain, amidst stairways, alleys, and geometric patterns that anticipate the visionary style that would make Escher famous worldwide thanks to his ability to transform a real place into emotion, art, and memory.
The "Escher" vacation home, with its characteristic "tower" structure and its marble steps connecting the three rooms of the house, house, with its respective views on three levels, offers a miniature experience of that perspective and memory.
